Why every AI-built campaign should launch paused

Speed is the point of AI marketing — but not at the cost of your budget. Here is the case for paused-by-default publishing, and how to make approvals fast instead of slow.

The promise of AI marketing is speed: research in minutes, a channel plan by lunch, copy and creative by the afternoon. The fastest way to waste that promise is to let an agent turn on spend by itself.

In AIM, every campaign lands paused inside your own ad account. Nothing spends until a person approves it. Here is why we think that is the right default for any AI-built campaign.

Drafts are cheap, spend is not

An agent can write fifty headline variants for free. A single misconfigured campaign — the wrong audience, a missing exclusion, a budget with an extra zero — costs real money within hours. The asymmetry is the whole argument: let agents move fast on the parts that are cheap to undo, and keep a person on the part that is not.

What a good approval step looks like

"Human in the loop" gets a bad name because it usually means slow. It does not have to.

  • Stage everything, ready to go. The campaign should already exist in the ad account, fully built, so approving is one action, not a rebuild.
  • Show the reasoning. The plan behind the campaign — audience, budget split, goal, and the research it came from — should sit next to the approve button.
  • Keep the record. Every agent run should log what it read and produced, so you can trace any decision later.
  • Keep budgets where they belong. Spend lives in the ad account you own, under limits you set on the platform.

Done this way, approval takes minutes and removes the risk that matters most.

What agents should do without asking

Paused publishing does not mean agents wait around. Plenty of work carries no spend risk and should run continuously:

  1. Research competitors and search demand.
  2. Draft plans, copy, and creative variants.
  3. Pull results and write reports.
  4. Propose the next round of changes.

That is most of the marketing cycle, and it can run around the clock.

The bottom line

The goal is not to slow AI down. It is to put the one irreversible decision — spending money — in the hands of the person who owns the budget, and let the agents sprint on everything else.
