How to set up Pinterest Ads and connect them with AI agents
Convert to a Pinterest business account, open an ad account, then connect it in AIM. The AI agents prepare paused Promoted Pins and read clicks and saves.
Pinterest suits visual offers that people browse and plan before they buy. AIM's AI agents prepare Promoted Pins in your ad account and read spend, impressions, outbound clicks, and saves. Every campaign they prepare arrives paused. Nothing spends until you approve it.
A personal Pinterest profile is not an ad account. You need both a business account and an ad account.
At a glance
- Time: about 15 minutes.
- Access you need: the Pinterest business login that owns the ad account, or one invited to it.
- What AIM can do: read boards and Pins, prepare paused Promoted Pins, and read results.
- What AIM cannot do: turn on spend, change your boards, or see your Pinterest password.
Before you start
- The Pinterest login that should own the ads.
- A website your Pins will link to.
- Images you can promote, or a plan for Creative Studio to prepare them. A Pin needs an image before it can be promoted.
- In AIM, the Owner, Admin, or Marketer role on the workspace.
Set up Pinterest Ads
- Open pinterest.com and sign in.
- Open Settings and convert the account to a Business account if it is still personal. Add the business name and website.
- Open ads.pinterest.com with the same login and create an ad account. Confirm the country and currency. Pinterest bills this ad account, not AIM.
- Add a payment method when you are ready to spend. Connecting AIM does not charge it.
- Create a board that fits the offer, and publish at least one Pin that links to your site. This gives the agents a sense of your style before they prepare anything.
- If a teammate will connect AIM, invite them to the ad account with permission to view and create ads. They should sign in with their own Pinterest business login.
- Note the ad account name. You will pick it in AIM.
Connect Pinterest Ads with AIM's AI agents
- Sign in to AIM and open Integrations, then Pinterest.
- Click Connect Pinterest. Pinterest asks to let AIM read boards and Pins, and create ads as drafts.
- Sign in with the business login that owns the ad account, and approve.
- Choose the ad account for this workspace. A workspace uses one ad account at a time.
- When the badge says Active, the connection is ready.
What happens after you connect
Here is what AIM does with the connection, in plain terms.
-
Your access is stored privately. Pinterest gives AIM an access grant, not your password. AIM keeps it encrypted, uses it only for this workspace, and deletes it from AIM when you disconnect.
-
The agents read results on a schedule. About twice a day, Analyst & Reporter reviews spend, clicks, and saves. If something needs action, Performance Optimizer writes up a proposed change for you. You can also click Refresh insights on the Pinterest page at any time.
-
Every campaign is checked before it reaches your account. Before a prepared campaign is sent, AIM checks that:
- it is paused;
- the budget meets Pinterest's minimum and your workspace budget;
- the Pin's link carries tracking.
Pin text is checked against Pinterest's length limits and common policy problems. A draft that fails a check is not sent.
-
You approve, then it can spend. Prepared campaigns show as Needs your approval on your AIM dashboard and in Activity, and you get an email. They stay paused until you turn them on.
-
Your boards stay yours. The agents read your boards and Pins to match your style. They do not rearrange, edit, or delete them.
-
Everything is logged. The Agent work on Pinterest list on the integration page records every time an agent read from or prepared something in this account.
Which AI agents use this connection
- Campaign Planner uses Pinterest for catalog and consideration traffic when the offer is visual.
- Media Buyer prepares campaigns. They stay paused until you approve spend.
- Creative Studio prepares Pin images that fit the boards people already browse.
- Analyst & Reporter reads spend, impressions, outbound clicks, and saves.
If something looks wrong
- No ad account appears. The login is still a personal profile, or the ad account was created under a different Pinterest user. Convert the account or switch users, then connect again.
- Choose an account. You signed in but have not picked an ad account yet.
- Sign in again or Expired. Pinterest ended the access grant. Click Connect Pinterest again.
- Needs attention. AIM could not reach the ad account. Open the Pinterest page in AIM to see the reason.
What stays in your control
Disconnecting in AIM stops the agents immediately and removes AIM's access grant. Your boards, Pins, and any campaign you already turned on stay in Pinterest. To revoke access on Pinterest's side too, remove AIM from the apps list in your Pinterest business account settings.
